A couple years ago I read The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. It’s roughly 700 pages long, feels strangely bleak most of the time, and talks a lot about architecture (not the most glowing review, I suppose). I didn’t hate it, but I haven’t exactly been itching to re-read it. However, there is one passage in it that I still think about all the time. Here it is:

At work yesterday, I was trying to figure out why I was unquenchably thirsty. After giving it some thought, I concluded it was because my nose was stuffed up and so I had been breathing through my mouth all morning. When I told one of my co-workers that, she said “You should be a detective.” The more I thought about it, the more I realized she is completely right. I should be a detective.

I was sitting in our living room the other day when I saw something scurry out of the corner of my eye. I was really hoping it was just my imagination, but sure enough, a couple seconds later a little runt of a mouse ran back across our floor. Continue reading

—For those of you floating aimlessly (or otherwise) around the Nashville area, I’m going to be playing a free show at the Basement next week Tuesday (Feb 1). The show starts at 8pm and it’s 21+. A couple very talented friends of mine are going to be joining me for the first time, so I’m pretty excited about that. If you’re wondering what my excited face looks like, picture my normal face and then change nothing about it. It’s like that. I really am excited, I’m just bad at showing it.

I am really astounded by how many of you guys have taken the time to pick up a copy of “The Streets Will Turn to Streams” since it was released a week ago. I had no idea what to expect, but the response has really been wonderful. It’s things like this (and people like you) that keep me working towards whatever this is I’m working towards (struggling forward as a human being, as a musician, figuring out what it means and what it looks like to share those things with you).

The day of reckoning is upon us. It’s been a long time coming. It was a year and two days ago that I first contacted Dustin Anderson (who engineered and mixed the album) about recording these songs.

Fast forward 367 days, and the limited edition hand-made copies of “The Streets Will Turn to Streams” are finally available for you to enjoy. You can make your way over to the shop to pick up a copy or four.

A Face and a Case
Thursday is a mellow sort of a day. It’s not the weekend yet, but it’s the fourth weekday in a row, and you’re getting kind of sick of them. We here at Zachvinson.com (I find that saying “we” instead of “me” makes me sound much more legitimate) know the feeling, and we (me) are here for you.

To help you through this day, here is a list of mellow things that are appropriate for a Thursday:

I’ve been slaving away on these hand-made cases, and I was just realizing that you haven’t gotten to see the finished product yet. They come in five different colors (actually different six colors, but one is a secret color) and look something like this:

Good afternoon my friends,

The limited edition release of “The Streets Will Turn to Streams” will be available for you all on this Friday, January 7, but more on that at another time. Starting today, I’m going to post a new song off the album each day until the release on Friday! (unneccessary exclamation point)

I was going to give you all a free Christmas song that I recorded a couple years back, but then I listened to it again.

It’s not good.
